Circles of Emotions

Circles have various meanings to me and they appear in my work in various forms. The Circles of Emotions series started as postcards and have transformed to spirals and portals. Continue reading to see and read more about this series.

I started painting my watercolour postcard series of Circles of Emotions in January 2023. I would paint these in the evenings to help process the feelings circling inside.

I painted at least one or two per month, by painting a little and letting them dry and builiding them up over a few evenings of painting and processing. The building up of the layers over a period of a few days was a very calming and helpful process for me.

I started to generate more watercolour postcards in June and July 2023 for an online art sharing event.

I would work on a variety at the same time so that I could wait for layers of paint to dry. This helped me feel occupied and process various feelings.

Here are few photos of the collection of watercolour postcards from 2023 for the Circles of Emotions series:

Towards the end of 2023 I started making more watercolour Circles of Emotions onto larger sheets incorporating spirals and portals:

I was also commissioned in 2024, by a fellow colleague who is also an artist, to create her a ‘circletastic’ Circles of Emotions painting on A1 paper. Here is glimpse of the process and final piece:

I have started reworking the 2023 ones to fill the page. This next stage in the process feels very important because I want the page to be enveloped with the circles and the emotions they represent.
